2005 - 2006

September 2005

School starts on September 6th this year. Parents you are welcome to come with your child for the first day of school so that you can see the class, meet myself and Johanna, and learn about what to expect this school year. If students have school supplies, then please bring them on either the first or second day of school. Supplies are not required, but some students wish to bring "special" pencils, etc. See you there!

August 2005

Welcome students and parents,

Hopefully you have all had a relaxing summer and were able to do all the activities that you had planned to do. This year will be a busy for both the students as well as myself. I am taking my Masters in Educational Technology from UBC in Vancouver and will be trying to incorporate technology into the classroom in meaningful ways. My philosophy is that in order for students to learn most effectively, they need to learn through the right learning tool. Computers are just one of the many tools that teachers (or parents) can select to help children to learn. I am looking forward to the school year, and hopefully you are as well

I will once again be teaching the class their Physical Education. During the year we focus on the development of various skills. These can be things like bouncing a ball, balancing, hitting a ball, or can be fitness based. The Physical Education program is designed not for competition, but rather for individual growth; students are encouraged to improve their skills and fitness based on their own needs and goals and not compared to the other students. Their performance in those skills decides their grade for Physical Education not whether or not they win or lose the game. I strongly encourge all the students to join a school or community team if they wish to compete in a sport. It is my goal to introduce the students to a wide variety of sports and leisure activities so that they can find physical activities that they can participate in throughout their lives.
